In today’s video I am sharing with you why I decided to learn sign language with my family and how it has been beneficial for my son Harry.
Harry is deaf, but wears a cochlear implant. Even though he can hear with his hearing technology, and we communicate orally, we also use sign language with him.
3 benefits of sign language for communicating with toddlers
1. It is a fast way to communicate with your baby
Even little babies can pick up sign language, so whether your child is deaf or hearing this can be a helpful tool!
2. It has really helped Harry with his speech
When Harry received his implants he was at the age where he should have been speaking, but couldn’t so we would use signs to communicate. We would say the word as we did the sign, which helped Harry pick up on what was being said.

3. It is valuable for everyone
I know that learning sign language has benefited Harry and I and I think it is an amazing skill for any child or adult to have.
We are so happy with our decision to learn sign language. It has been another great way of communicating that has helped us in many ways!
