Dear Anna: Can Lyric in-the-canal hearing aids be made for narrow ear canals? Years ago, I tried them. My ear canals are narrow. After insertion, I was in agony for 24 hours until my body adapted. Also, while wearing them, my ear canals were itchy. My hearing correction was excellent while I wore them, but I gave up on them because of the pain and the constant itch. Is there a better solution?
Anna (yes, my name, too)
We realized that even the Lyric XS size was too large for some ears so we have since introduced the XXS size of Lyric which has thinner seals and an additional seal designed to offer more protection for smaller narrow ear canals.

To help with dry skin it is also sometimes necessary to lubricate the ear canal on first insertion with glycerin which we have tested and know that it has no negative effect of how the Lyric functions.
It can take a few days to get used to Lyric being in the ear but if after 2-3 days the discomfort does not ease then you should always go back to the Lyric Hearing care provider who can advise you on what to do.
If you do decide to try Lyric again I would love to know how this goes or answer any further questions you may have.
Phonak Lyric hearing aids are the only 100% invisible hearing aids. Placed in the ear canal, Lyric delivers clear, natural sound while staying completely out-of-sight.
While traditional hearing aids capture and process sound outside of the ear, Lyric uses the natural anatomy of the ear to amplify and give you a full, natural listening experience, according to Phonak.com. Because Lyric is placed in the ear canal near the eardrum by a trained professional, it is a 100% invisible hearing aid.
Thanks to its exclusive extended-wear technology, long-lasting battery, and moisture protection, Lyric provides exceptional sound quality in various hearing environments – from the shower, to the golf course, to the boardroom – and it does so invisibly, 24/7 for months at a time.
