D.J. Demers is a deaf comedian from Toronto, Canada and has worn behind-the-ear hearing aids since he was four years old. He has been performing stand-up comedy since 2009 and was featured on America’s Got Talent and also previously featured on the late-night talk show, Conan.
The first time D.J. was featured on Conan, he mentioned that he never wanted to be known as ‘the hearing aid guy’. During times throughout his life, D.J. felt like his hearing aids didn’t have a big role in his identity. As he has grown older, he acknowledges his hearing aids are a large part of his identity. This recognition has had a positive effect on his comedy. When D.J. performs, his confidence with his hearing aids shows.
“Nowadays, I will talk about my hearing aids with anybody,” says D.J.
