Austin’s Soundtrack

When Austin, who describes himself as “profoundly deaf,” finally made the switch to digital hearing aids, the technology and his new access to music blew him away. Great video. I’ve had these same feelings my entire life but was not able to put them to words. I think the analogy of a blind person who can read all the sudden is an accurate description. I also have hearing server to profound. As noted above……one day at a time. Communication, family, friends…..a career…..all a challenge. One day at a time and the grace of God is all I stand on.

I’ve been profoundly hearing impaired most of my life. Yet I have never not been able to hear music. How MUCH of it I’m NOT hearing, I may never know. But I know I hear enough to thoroughly enjoy it. I know that I do not hear cymbals, piccolos. My husband is a violinist. I can’t tell you how many times I yell something out to him thinking he has stopped practicing his violin when, in fact, he is playing the higher frequencies of his instrument and I don’t hear!
